In the only first division match to beat the weather, Craigie saw their promotion hopes dented by the league leaders although a much improved second half performance almost saw them gain a point.
The visitors dominated early possession with Lee Nichol prominent in midfield, and they took the lead when his corner was headed in at the near post by Graham Anderson despite a defenders attempts to clear, and the same player almost added a second moments later but his shot went narrowly past before Joe Dingwall forced a good save from Craig Weir as Craigie struggled to get into the match.
They did slowly begin to do so, and David Anderson forced a fingertip save from Sam Filler, and as half time approached the match began to become more even but Stirling struck a vital blow just before the break when Ryan Topp won the ball in midfield and fed Jacob Arnold-Smith whose through ball saw Euan Black beat Stuart Martin and Weir to the ball, and find the empty net.
Craigie came out determined at the start of the second half , and were rewarded when Anderson set up Stevie Manson who beat a defender and shot past Filler, and Manson then crossed for Anderson but Filler was well placed to save his header then Andy Dewar shot past when well placed.
A rare attempt on the home goal saw Weir save well from Anderson but Craigie almost equalised when a miskick by Mark McCullagh was cleared off his own goal line by a team mate before Sammy Hassan was twice thwarted by the quick actions of Filler when he was well placed.
The students were now content to try and hit Craigie on the break, and Nichol shot into the side net and Arnold-Smith shot narrowly past as they looked to seal the win but they held on for a vital win. |
