Craigie fought back from being two goals down for the second successive away match to earn a deserved point but it was more points dropped in their quest for promotion.
They could have went behind early on when Euan Campbell's cross found Mark Duthie unmarked but he mishit his shot and Chris Beaton hit the post with his attempt then Campbell did well to turn his marker but Craig Weir saved well from his shot.
Craigie's first real attempt on goal saw Ryan McKenzie meet Stuart Martin's corner at the near post but Iain Gordon did well to push his header over for another corner then a James Binnie flick found David Anderson, and although he was tripped he managed to put the ball past Gordon but the referee had already awarded a free kick which saw Sean Martin force Gordon into another good save pushing the ball against the post then Anderson had the keeper at full stretch to save his shot as the visitors began to look like opening the scoring but the fell behind against the run of play when Duthie's cross was only partly cleared and when Leith returned the ball into the penalty area Greg Irvine shot low past Weir, and they doubled their lead minutes later when Irvine's cross found Duthie at the back post, and he shot powerfully into the roof of the net, and as they began to dominate Weir saved from Campbell to keep his side in the match.
Anderson then did well to chest down a Stevie Manson cross and again forced Gordon to push his shot over for a corner from which Craigie pulled a goal back.
McKenzie did well to keep the ball in play, and when it was scrambled off the line Binnie was handily placed to score, and they almost equalised immediately when Anderson beat Gordon to the ball but was unable to keep the ball in play then a Sean Martin free kick found McKenzie well placed but he headed past as Craigie ended the half pushing for an equaliser.
Leith should have regained their two goal lead early in the second half when Campbell's low cross found Irvine unmarked but he shot past before Duthie tried a long range chip which went narrowly past.
Anderson then worked his way to the bye line but Manson was unable to convert his cross, and as play now went from end to end Weir just managed to block Irvine as he chased a through ball then Binnie saw a powerful shot blocked by a team mate as it looked as if it may find its target but Craigie did level matters when an unmarked Sean Martin headed in a corner from sub Kyle Hay despite Gordon's best attempts to keep it out.
Both sides looked for a winner as a draw suited neither and Leith almost got it when good work by Dougie Thom set up sub Craig Downie but Weir saved well, and both sides had to settle for a point. |
