Craigie crashed out of the Alex Jack Cup at the first hurdle at the hands of the holders and near neighbours Leith Athletic.
The first real threat on goal came from Craigie through Stuart Martin but he shot narrowly over but Leith took the lead in their next attack when the visiting defence misjudged a long ball and Jason Stevens found Euan Campbell who shot past Michael Atai.
This setback seemed to unsettle Craigie, and only some last gasp defending thwarted Darren Lavery before Atai made a fine reflex save to prevent an own goal from Keith Pullen before Campbell shot over, and Stevens forced Atai into another save.
Craigie survived however, and equalised shortly before half time when a good passing move ended with Martin finding David Anderson who saw his first shot saved by Iain Gordon but he kept his head to finish as the second attempt.
Craigie were stunned at the start of the second half when Stevens harmless cross slipped through the hands of Atai and into the net but the were given a glorious chance to equalise minutes later when Kris O'Neil was fouled in the penalty area but the same player saw his penalty saved by the legs of Gordon who denied O'Neil again soon after.
Atai then kicked a Jamie Burstow free kick clear but he was beaten again when Stevens outpaced the Craigie defence, and although Campbell appeared to be brought down the referee allowed paly to continue, and Darren Lavery shot high into the net before another Stevens run saw him find an unmarked Campbell, and he shot past Atai for his second and his side fourth and final goal. |
