Although the match was not of the same quality of recent matches between the sides, due mainly to the windy conditions Craigroyston deservedly gained revenge for their recent defeat by Gretna.
Craigie took an early lead when Craig Weir's wind assisted clearance wasnt dealt with by the visiting defence, and Sammy Hassan took advantage to shoot past Alex Mitchell.
Weir then preserved his sides lead when he saved well from Tony Nicholson, and this became important when in the home sides next attack James Binnie returned a clearance and David Anderson shot past Mitchell to double his sides lead, and Anderson was again involved when his flick set up Stevie Manson to score a third.
The visitors were thrown a lifeline just before interval when Dean Rea's cross was turned in by an unmarked Steven Rudd.
Nicholson shot past when well placed early in the second half as Gretna started the second half well but Hassan saw his header cleared off the line as Craigie looked for a clinching goal.
Rudd then saw Weir save well with his legs as the visitors managed to create a rare close range chance as they were mainly confined to long range efforts which rarely threatened, and Craigie looked dangerous on the break with Anderson and sub Graeme Bernardi being thwarted by last ditch challenges.
Overall an excellent win for Craigie with Weir and his makeshift defence restricting their opponents to few clear cut chances. |
