An eventful day which started with their bus breaking down ended with 10 man Craigie recording a vital three points against their 9 man hosts.
Despite the delayed kick off they started well, and Kyle Hay forced Dean Avery into a fingertip save before David Anderson had a goal chalked off for offside then Hay shot narrowly past.
It was the home side however who should have opened the scoring when Keiran Ainslie headed a corner back across goal but Johnny Simpson somehow shot over with the goal gaping.
Craigie eventually opened the scoring when Sammy Hassan ended a run with low shot past Avery.
Sean Simpson then outjumped Craig Weir to a cross but was unable to direct his header on target before Hay fouled Alan Jess who kicked out, and both players were shown their second yellow cards to reduce both sides to ten men, and Craigie were hit by another blow right on half time when Johny Simpson was fouled in the penalty area, and Jordan Ainslie sent Weir the wrong way from the penalty spot to equalise.
Anderson and Steven Manson set up Sean Martin early in the second half but Avery blocked with his legs before the game changed when James Binnie fouled the home sides Thiago Ferreira who retaliated by attempting to throw punches at anybody he could reach which resulted in a number of players becoming involved, and when it settled down Ferreira was deservedly shown a straight red card.
Craigie soon took advantage when Hassan got the break of the ball in misfield before setting up Sean Martin who finished well, and as their man advantage and superior fitness began to tell, Hassan twice came close to adding a third before combining with Binnie who fed Martin who turned inside his defender and fired high past Avery to seal the win.
A good win at a difficult venue which combined with Vale Of Leithen drawing saw Craigie move to within one point at the top of the league. |
